Ruth Batten - Garden Photographer

About Ruth Batten and her work

Ruth was given her first camera at 14 and started to photograph everything around her including beautiful sunsets outside her back garden overlooking Brentwood's Thorndon Hall Estate. At school she was an enthusiastic art student and persuaded her parents to let her go on to do an Art foundation course at Thurrock Technical College in Essex.

After completing a degree in Photography, film and video at Westminster University Ruth was commissioned for various shoots by Ludus and Penthouse for Women magazines.
Ruth took part in a Russian/British documentary expedition with 5 other English and Russian photographers, where she spent several months in the main cultural capital of St Petersburg.

Ruth photographs gardens and flowers where her inspiration comes from the many beautiful private and public gardens across England, with particular love of the Royal Horticultural Societies Garden in Wisley, Surrey of which she is a member. Orchids are another favourite as she loves the exotic shapes and colours of orchids and she is also a member of the Orchid Society of Great Britain.

"I love photographing flowers and orchids, their beautiful shapes and colours are a feast to my senses, and the peace and enjoyment I receive when photographing and spending many hours in private and public gardens.. I hope you enjoy my photographs as much as I enjoyed taking them."
